                             We Seekers
                               -----

We seekers of God, everyone of us, uniquely,
whether part of a formal religion of not,
are on a lifelong journey.
It requires a mix of faith, hope, love,
openness, patience, perseverance, solitude and silence.

As we search there may be occasions of joyful awe,
but more frequently we are too busy with life's other chores
to actively seek God.
And for some there are the periods
lasting days or decades,
of the depths of doubt and despair;
and for some, complete denial of the existence of God,
no matter how broad or limited the definition.

Don't worry, God awaits lovingly.
Since our journey takes a lifetime,
it is never too late to restart the search.

                Great Experience
                             -----

Was raised in a happy atmosphere with siblings and/or a
close
extended family.
Had parents who taught right from wrong, gave roots and
wings,
provided love and compassion, helped all children search
for God.
Attained good grades in elementary school and made good
friends.
Earned fine grades in high school and college, played on a
team sport
and/or provided leadership in other extracurricular activities.
Worked part-time and/or summers while in high school
and/or college.
Served in the U.S. Military.  Obtained a graduate degree.
Spent years successfully in the private sector.
Was actively involved in not-for-profit community activities.
Travels widely nationally and globally, studies history, enjoys
politics.
Was elected mayor, town supervisor or county executive -
or served in
the legislature in local or state government.
Was elected to the U.S. Congress in the House or Senate.
Has served on national and international commissions and
task forces.
Is serving as Governor of a State.
Is a person of prudence and justice,
loves people - those who have and those who have not -
listens, is decisive and tough minded when necessary,
has common sense and high integrity.
If we could find a person with character and much of that
experience,
what a fine President of the U.S.A. he or she would make.

On the other hand, none of our better Presidents
would come close to all these criteria,
so I guess it is wiser
to let the strongest candidate emerge and vie
and let the voters choose.
Then time and circumstances will tell if greatness is there.

Serve First
-----

Some selfish people
never know the joy of serving
well.
Some managers who never
serve
wonder why no one follows.

Some who serve well
are capable of leading,
but fail to step up.
The world loses.

Serve first,
serve well,
so that you may be
judged worthy to lead.

If you do,
if you are,
then go out ahead,
and show the way.

            Quick Quiz
                   -----

Where do

the decisions I am about to make,

the words I am about to speak,

the actions I am about to take

most probably lie

on the truly-wise-to-really-stupid-
spectrum?

            -----

    No
    -----

No walking,
no talking,
no running,
no sports,
no working,
no reading,
no writing,
no telephone,
no computer,
no Internet,
no books,
no music,
no television,
no eating,
no drinking,
no people,
no nothing.

Just sit there
in silence
with only
nature's sounds.
Now think.

When I learn
to do it,
I'll know how
to say no
to time stealers.

                              The Fee
                                  -----

Everywhere I walk the path is littered,
new and old problems.
I poke, turn them over with a stick,
analyze the situation,
think through alternatives,
practice persuasive speeches,
anticipate opponents hostility,
gather friendly supporters.

Who needs this turmoil filled trip?

It is I who have chosen a complex
urban highway,
not a simple country road.

The toll is a restless mind.

           -----

   One Blessing
                   -----

I have but one blessing,
one hope, one toast, one prayer
for my wife, sons, grandchildren,
family, friends, loved ones.

Through God's graces and your own
efforts
for the lives you have yet to live,
may you enjoy good health
in mind and body,
in heart and soul.
